Bangkok Girl Blog Guest Post: Sukhumvit Wife Syndrome

A while back I had written a satirical piece for a local expat magazine about being a Sukhumvit Housewife. The article was never used so I thought my friend Anna might like to have it on her very popular blog: Bangkok Girl Blog!

Check out my post here.

It is meant to be funny; very tongue in cheek. Some lady on Twitter didn’t understand my sarcasm and thought my write up was super (insert expletive here) bratty. Needless to say, others enjoyed it and I hope you will too.

Special Needs

We all have needs, some more than others. I didn’t really want to write about this but then again I think that it is important to share how we are adjusting with anyone else that might be an expat or a parent going through the same thing, it’s always nice to know you aren’t alone.

As a parent it is extremely hard not to compare your child to the kids you see around. When at different playgroups I think “well Timmy can do this but Killi can’t or Jenny can do that but why can’t Killian…?” Everyone says that children develop at their own speed and on their own time and I know that this is true but as a parent it is hard not to worry and think about if your kid is falling behind. You wonder if your child is actually falling behind or are you blowing it out of proportion. Everyone is eager to give their two cents on when their kid started talking or in an attempt to help you not worry about it down play the situation but in all reality that doesn’t help put a parents mind at ease, nothing will at this point.

No sleep…

“People who say they sleep like a baby usually don’t have one. ”
~Leo J. Burke

To say that Killian is adjusting to bedtime would be a lie. My son is so confused on his days and nights he took a 4 hour nap last night to where we thought it was bed time and decided to party until 1 am and then he slept until 4 am when we started our day (trying to keep your baby to sleep without a crib is ridiculous)! I have been running on 3 hours of sleep a day for 3 days now and I’m starting to have a hard time seeing straight. Today we tried to keep him to his normal nap time and bedtime and boy was he pissed when we woke him up at 1 pm (which would be like me waking him up in the states at 1 am). He cried and screamed and had his eyes rolling back in his head for about an hour and then he stopped and just looked like a zombie. In addition to not sleeping he hasn’t been eating but finally today he ate some pork on a stick, a hot dog and corn. (Insert sigh of relief)
