The great thing about being an expat in a foreign land is that I can still play tourist anytime I want. Sometimes…okay most of the time; I scoff at tourists, who seem incapable of obeying the unspoken rules of the land of smiles in their silly neon color Chang beer tank tops, or (my favorite) the girls walking around the malls in their bikinis. Listen ladies, there is no beach around here so it’s not acceptable to parade your body in a skimpy bikini in places of business but I digress.

How’s This for Confidence!?
I am very serious about being confident in God’s perfect plan for my life. Most of the time, I feel like I am just holding on for dear life because it comes at me so quickly. I guess that’s just part of the fun of “enjoying the ride”.
I wanted to share with you my bold leaps out of my comfort zone into something totally new where I believe God is calling me. I am so excited about these different opportunities because I know I will learn so much that will lead to great career path prospects down the road.
What’s Next?
In 2014, I plan on shaking things up a bit. I am going to try something new and if I fall flat on my face, at least I can say I did something totally out of my comfort zone.
I am going to be confident!
A Little Boy Making Big Progress
As you know Killi has completed his first term of therapy, we are now in the second term and hopefully when he has finished this round he will be ready for school in September. Since Killi has improved greatly on his social skills we are focusing more on the speech. It’s pretty exciting as a parent when your kid, who was almost completely nonverbal, is now blabbering on all the time. I just wanted to share with you some of the new words that he is saying.

It’s always fun for us to have guests come visit, especially when they visit us in our new home in Bangkok. We now have the ability to share some of these unique cultural experiences with our friends and family. This Christmas, my in-laws came to visit us for two weeks and we had everyday planned out for them so they could experience as much of Thailand as they could possibly handle.

Christmas In Bangkok: Sensory Overload
photos taken with Nikon D3100
Coming from the Bible belt, I have always seen a beautiful display of Christmas decorations with nativity scenes, angels with their trumpets, Christmas trees, stockings, Santa Claus and his eight tiny reindeer, and (most of the time) delightfully tacky Christmas light displays. When I left the Bible belt for a predominantly Buddhist country right after Christmas, all I could think was “I might not have Christmas like this for the next four years…” and that was a hard pill to swallow.
One down. Three to go.
As of today, it has been one year since we left home and everything we knew. One year since we started on an amazing journey that in all honesty, I could have never imagined for our lives.
Killi Therapy Week 12: Finished… For Now…
Our twelve weeks of ESDM Therapy has come to a close. It’s amazing how far my son has come and how much he has changed in such a short time. This has been a very trying time in our lives as a family and as some of you can relate, having a “special” kid is exhausting and overwhelming but those times when you get a big hug or you truly see a difference in your child’s development, you seem to forget all of the hard times.
